DESCRIPTION:The Women's Wellness Clinic at Seattle Cancer Care Alliance (SCCA) and Harmony Hill Retreat Center are pleased to annouce a collaborative retreat for women affected by a cancer diagnosis\, with a specific number of spaces being offered just for SCCA patients who have completed treatment for breast and other women's cancers. You are invited to experience this nurturing and interactive retreat to cultivate practical tools for living a healthy\, happy life. Blending lectures and experiential learning over three days\, the weekend offers healing through stress reduction training\, guided imagery\, creative arts\, daily support groups\, yoga and nutrition classes\, all in the comfort of Harmony Hill's beautiful 12 acre campus on the Hood Canal. DESCRIPTION:This one-day workshop is a full day of practical resources and strategies for how to live fully despite the challenges of cancer\, and includes simple movement\, guided imagery\, group support and information about healing tools and resources. Lunch is provided. Men\, women and companions are welcome. Overnight accommodations at Harmony Hill before and/or after any one-day Cancer Program workshop are available at no cost to those attending the Tools for the Journey workshops taking place on the Harmony Hill campus. There will be:    • refreshments served    • free septic system friendly maintenance items    • handouts and materials    • a chance to ask questions about your system     Teri King of Washington Sea Grant will gather guests around the septic tank for an informal talk on the generally unknown complexities of a septic system.  Participants will get a chance to ask questions\, and learn the ins and outs\, dos and don’ts of a residential septic system\, how to routinely monitor your on-site system so that your tank never gets to a problem stage; and how to apply for low interest loans to replace faulty systems.     What Are Septic Socials?    Workshops with a party atmosphere that suggest easy and inexpensive practices you can adopt to keep your system running effectively and to also know when you have a problem. Not only can a failing septic system cost you thousands of dollars and lower your property value\, but the pollution from them seeps into our local waterways\, closing shellfishing areas and causing swimming beach bans.

SUMMARY:29th Annual Allyn Days
DESCRIPTION:If you've been looking forward to the best alder-smoked salmon dinner you'll eat all year\, then make the trek to the 29th annual Allyn Days Celebration. Besides the famous meal cooked and served by volunteers of the Allyn Community Association\, you'll also have an opportunity to hear top-flight music all weekend long. The Perry Acker Band\, recently selected best out of more than 2\,000 bands in the "Gimme a Gig" contest\, performs Sunday at 4. Sweet Kiss Momma\, The Tonze\, Jennifer Ivester\, Swing Fever and other regional favorites will also be on hand as well.     You won't want to miss the live auction at 1:30pm on Saturday\, where you can bid on weekend getaways\, kayak rental and other donated items you can't live without.    This is also a great opportunity to visit the Allyn Historic Church\, which will be open for visitors. The Stormo family will be carrying on their tradition of selling out the famous Barbara Stormo cinnamon rolls to support the building maintenance. Courtyard sales will also be running throughout the town\, with antiques\, baked goods\, rummage items and more. From Nerf golf for the kids\, to a wine and beer garden for the grown-ups\, there is something for everyone. Hot dogs will also be available for the kids.     For those who want to get an early start\, an Art Show & Chalk Art Competition starts Friday and continues all weekend.  Experience art by six local painters\, and photographers: Louise Cothary\, Lionel Harris\, Ryan Phinney\, Jackie Bush-Turner\, and Wanda and Leroy Jesfield. To enter the chalk art competition\, contact Jesfield Productions at 360-275-8788 or LeAnn Dennis at the Port of Allyn at 360-275-2430.    Fire District 5/Lions will have a Pancake Breakfast from 7-11am on Saturday and from 8am-noon on Sunday\, the District 5 Fire Fighters and North Mason Lions will be serving up a delicious breakfast to start out your day. Proceeds benefit both organizations. They will also have a “smoke tunnel” for kids to go through. Free blood pressure checks will also be offered.    Enjoy some of the best live bands in the region.    Sunday only\, there will be a Food Fair with oysters and clams by J.R.s Hideaway\, Barbecue by Casper’s Pizza & Barbecue\, also food from Mulligan’s Restaurant\, Lennard K’s Boat House and others are helping to provide a variety of great food to choose from.

The second hour includes member initiated break-out sessions. This may be such things as: Housing Coalition\, Case Manager support group\, Executive/Program Director updates\, extended discussions on first-hour topics focused on solutions\, Non-profit management issues such as fundraising\, audits\, and board development. Publically funded service providers might consider other related management issues. The space is also available after 4:00 for client-based wrap-around meetings among providers or a team meeting for a specific project. This is your group!    To initiate a break-out session contact Jeannie Gruber at United Way at uway3@hcc.net\, so that it may be advertised prior to the meeting. You may also contact Jeannie if you would like to join the committee involved in planning and structure. DESCRIPTION:The Community Services Group's purpose is to collaborate with other health and human service providers actively working in Mason County. Anyone is welcome! We meet on the second Tuesday of the month from 1:00 to 4:00 at the Public Works Building in Shelton\, WA.    The first hour is an issue based panel discussion lead by the local providers. The second hour includes member initiated break-out sessions. This may be such things as: Housing Coalition\, Case Manager support group\, Executive/Program Director updates\, extended discussions on first-hour topics focused on solutions\, Non-profit management issues such as fundraising\, audits\, and board development. Publically funded service providers might consider other related management issues. The space is also available after 4:00 for client-based wrap-around meetings among providers or a team meeting for a specific project. This is your group!    To initiate a break-out session contact Jeannie Gruber at United Way at uway3@hcc.net\, so that it may be advertised prior to the meeting. You may also contact Jeannie if you would like to join the committee involved in planning and structure. DESCRIPTION:Hood Canal Adventures is now ­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­ preparing for our second annual Geocache Bash October 7\,(meet and greet) 8 and 9\, 2011. So...Gather your friends get your teams\, spend the weekend and have a great time!    Meet and greet Friday night\, October 7th at the Alderbrook Golf & Yacht Club 6:00 to 8:00 PM and the treasure hunt begins on Saturday October 8th and Sunday October 9th. at Alderbrook Resort 7101 E Hwy 106.  8:00 AM for registration\, instruction and unified start both days.      Geocaching: A modern day "treasure hunt" and a very popular outdoor recreational activity enjoyed in any weather by people of all ages\, fitness\, or experience levels. Over the course of this two-day event\, each team will use a GPS device to locate hidden containers - called caches - that are placed at specific GPS coordinates throughout Mason County. Each cache is filled with clues\, items or treasures that will bring teams closer to solving an overall Geocache challenge. There will be 30 hidden caches to locate on the first day\, and 20 hidden caches to locate on the second day. The first team to find each cache will win a daily prizes. Grand prizes will be awarded to the team that finds the most caches over the entire two-day event!  The purpose of this event is to showcase our natural beauty and places of business throughout Mason County.    The cost for this years event will be $25.00 Per person (children 6 and under are free) and the rental for a GPS unit is $25 per unit for the event. Sign up early as space is limited. SUMMARY:United Way's Community Services Group
DESCRIPTION:The Community Services Group's purpose is to collaborate with other health and human service providers actively working in Mason County. Anyone is welcome! We meet on the second Tuesday of the month from 1:00 to 4:00 at the Public Works Building in Shelton\, WA.    The first hour is an issue based panel discussion lead by the local providers. The second hour includes member initiated break-out sessions. This may be such things as: Housing Coalition\, Case Manager support group\, Executive/Program Director updates\, extended discussions on first-hour topics focused on solutions\, Non-profit management issues such as fundraising\, audits\, and board development. Publically funded service providers might consider other related management issues. The space is also available after 4:00 for client-based wrap-around meetings among providers or a team meeting for a specific project. This is your group!    To initiate a break-out session contact Jeannie Gruber at United Way at uway3@hcc.net\, so that it may be advertised prior to the meeting. You may also contact Jeannie if you would like to join the committee involved in planning and structure.    We invite providers to take a turn assisting with the invitations of the panelists. since we are each specialists in our own field it makes sense that we could 'rally' the others to speak on a particular topic. DESCRIPTION:Alderbrook Properties and world famous singer Pat Boone are presenting the First Annual Love INC Golf Tournament and Dinner Auction\, Monday\, July 18\, 2011 at the award winning Alderbrook Golf Course\, Union. All proceeds go to Love INC of Mason County\, a 501 C(3) which mobilizes the local Churches in Mason County to assist those in need.  The scramble format event will start at noon\, followed by a catered dinner of specialty barbecue by Smoking Mo's Kitchen. The cost to play is $100 per player and includes green fees\, tee packets\, dinner and auction. Carts are extra. To register a foursome for the tournament go to www.AlderbrookGolf.com.    Pat is a great supporter of the services provided by Love INC and said he would be here if he can keep his calendar clear\, said Bill Kendrick\, chairman of the golf committee and President of the Alderbrook Golf Club. DESCRIPTION:This is 26th year for Celebrate Hoodsport\, a family oriented event on Saturday\, July 2 and Sunday\, July 3rd.     There is a street fair both days with  food and vendor booths plus a fun filled auction on Saturday at 2 p.m.  Meet at the Model T Pub and Eatery.  The auction has items big and small\, from mini-vacations to building materials.     Start your Saturday morning off at the annual Kiwanis Pancake Breakfast from 7 a.m. - 11 a.m. at the HP Community Church Fellowship Hall.     Pick up raffle tickets and Celebrate Hoodsport T-Shirts at different business' around town.  Proceeds go to support the FIREWORKS on SUNDAY JULY 3 at 10 p.m.  This year the fireworks will be accompanied by a music program provided by Rob Reed.    Mason County Transit provides shuttle service on July 3 from many locations.     Hood Canal is open for crabbing on this weekend.

DESCRIPTION:Since 2009\, United Way of Mason County has been bringing neighbors together to improve lives on "Day of Caring." This volunteer event symbolizes the true spirit of Mason County as participants help the community through various means.  Last year\, 179 volunteers from 13 workplaces and organizations completed 14 social service projects on a single day. They painted\, filed\, weeded parks\, set up play structures\, and more.  More importantly\, they put smiles on the faces of their neighbors and good feelings in their hearts. One lucky workshop attendee will win a free compost bin to help get them started on putting their yard waste to good use! DESCRIPTION:Good Timber  Songs and Stories of the Western Logger    "A musical revue...and an expertly executed\, top-notch one at that. A damned fine piece of theatre."  - Monday Magazine\, Victoria    "Excellent show\, superb visuals\, tales and music."  - Shaw TV\, Victoria    Other Guys Theatre Company\, with the Royal BC Museum\, presents an original musical theatre revue featuring the songs and stories of the western logger.    Good Timber will be featured as a part of the Mason County Forest Festival and is a Fundraiser for the Shelton Schools Foundation. Shows are on Saturday\, June 4th at 4 pm and 7:30 pm at the Shelton High School Auditorium. Good Timber is approximately 90 minutes long and is suitable for children aged 8 and up. Tickets are $12 and are available at Sage\, Lynch Creek and the museum. All proceeds from tickets sales will go to support the Shelton Schools Foundation.    Good Timber: Songs and Stories of the Western Logger celebrates the golden age of logging in the Pacific Northwest - and the legendary Bulls of the woods\, hookers\, hi-riggers\, fallers\, whistle punks\, and locie engineers from a time when loggers climbed trees.    Other Guys Theatre Company's artistic director\, Ross Desprez\, was inspired by a dog-eared copy of Rhymes of the Western Logger\, a compilation of logging camp poetry by Robert E. Swanson. If you'd stumbled into a skid road smoke shop or camp commissary during the 1940's or 50's you would have seen well-thumbed copies of Swanson's chapbooks sticking up among the Reader's Digests. Swanson achieved legendary status among the BC coast loggers\, doing for them what Robert Service did for the gold miners of the Klondike. Poems like The Cat Skinner's Prayer\, The Death of Rough House Pete\, and BC Hiball lament the hazards of the bush.    Desprez and creative partner Tobin Stokes have gathered a stellar cast for this entertaining romp through the past. Set against a multi-media backdrop of rarely-seen images from the BC Museum Archives\, John Gogo\, Mark Hellman\, Kelt and Colleen Eccleston\, Sarah Donald and Desprez act\, sing\, and play everything from guitar and fiddle to axe and handsaw. Desprez\, Stokes and the ensemble have written original music that ranges from Celtic and country to folk and blues\, to accompany the loggers' poetry.    Good Timber: Songs and Stories of the Western Logger is directed by Ross Desprez with music direction by Tobin Stokes. The production features the multi-media set design of John Carswell and Peter Pokorny. Lighting design is by Keith Houghton with costumes by Erin Macklem. Karley Wolfert is the Stage Manager.

DESCRIPTION:Centennial Hospital Guild\, an affiliate of Mason General Hospital Foundation\, is hosting this year?s annual Mason County Forest Festival ?Goldsborough Creek Fun Run\,? starting at 7 a.m. on Saturday\, June 4 at Shelton Valley Christian School. To register on-line go to www.Active.com and type in ?Goldsborough Creek.? The event is for walkers or runners ? family and friends. All Fun Run proceeds will benefit Mason General Hospital.    The event offers a 7-mile Run/Walk\, a 2 -mile Run/Walk\, or a ¼-mile Junior Jog. The 7-mile walk begins at 7 a.m. with the other walk/runs at 8 a.m. at Shelton Valley Christian School; and Junior Jog starts at 9:30 a.m. at the corner of 7th Street and Railroad Avenue. All events will finish at the Shelton Post Office.    Early-registration fee before May 14 is $20. After May 14 and day-of-race registration is $25. A commemorative dry-wick shirt may be ordered by the May 14 deadline for an additional $18. Entry fee for the Junior Jog is $10.
